The Madison Java Users Group is a free, informal, technical forum for Java enthusiasts, from beginners to experienced professionals. The group enables technology sharing throughout the Madison IT community. There are several purposes for the users group:
  • Provide a forum for exchanging Java information with other developers.
  • Provide technical and vendor presentations on Java technologies.
  • Promote the advantages of Java as a development and deployment environment.

April MadLUG Presentation: Lightning Talks!

Please let us know if you'd like to give a lighting talk. This is not something in depth or something for which you need to plan extensively.

DATE: First weekend in April (3rd or 4th).
TIME: 13:00 to 15:00 Central
WHERE: TBD...likely UW Comp Sci or Verona PL.
WHAT: Lightning talks on a area of specialty in Linux, technical or otherwise.
WHO: You! Let us know. Can't stress enough that this is not a big time commitment in front of people or for planning.

CapJug July Meeting

"You have probably been hearing the terms “Sprints”, “Backlog”, “Chickens & Pigs” for the last year or so and wondering what all this has to do with software development. If you are interested in finding out, this session will be of interest to you. We will cover the basics of Scrum. Scrum is an agile development methodology to iteratively and incrementally develop software systems and products (especially when requirements are rapidly changing). We will explore the Scrum process framework focusing on the 3 Roles, 3 Artifacts and 3 Ceremonies of Scrum. We will also touch upon Agile principles on which Scrum and other iterative methodologies are based on."

MadJUG June Meeting

New Features in JavaEE 6: presented by Moises Lejter
We will introduce the more interesting features that will be introduced in the next release of the Java Enterprise specification, JavaEE 6. We will discuss some of the principles behind the changes to the specification, in order to introduce specific new features of the different technologies that make up JavaEE 6.

The principles we’ll mention include:
• “rightsizing” the platform
• extensibility
• ease of development

The specific new features in JavaEE6 that we will mention include:
Servlets 3.0:
• Web Fragments
• Asynchronous processing of requests
Web Beans
JSF 2.0:
• View description language
• AJAX for JSF
• new view components
EJB 3.1 and EJB Lite:
• embedding EJBs in web applications
