Madison Magnet
MAGNET is a membership organization for young professionals in the greater Madison area. We are dedicated to attracting, cultivating and retaining the brightest and most talented YP's in the nation.
Mission: MAGNET will attract and retain talent to the greater Madison area by understanding and addressing the needs of the next generation of leaders. MAGNET will address these needs by providing professional development, civic involvement, public policy, and social and cultural opportunities target at people in their 20s and 30s and early 40s in order to increase their involvement in, connections to, and commitments to each other and the community at large.
Vision: MAGNET will make greater Madison a more vibrant, diverse, inclusive and productive community by attracting and retaining a wealth of talent that chooses to settle here and contribute to the regions’ economic, civic, social, and public policy futures.

Please let us know if you'd like to give a lighting talk. This is not something in depth or something for which you need to plan extensively.

WHAT: Lightning talks on a area of specialty in Linux, technical or otherwise.
WHO: You! Let us know. Can't stress enough that this is not a big time commitment in front of people or for planning.

Web608 Dinner: Potluck
Happy 2010!!! Let's Celebrate with a Potluck!!
Web608 is a collective of technology enthusiast (amateur and professional) who are helping grow the web and social media communities in Madison and the surrounding area, by bringing people, groups, and organizations together.
The first 2010 meeting will be a potluck/meet and greet. So invite friends and co-workers, bring something to eat or drink, and join us. A light conversation around the future of Web608 will also be held.

In this discussion Dan Neely founder and CEO of Networked insights will discuss his experiences with building companies. He will discuss the importance of great technology skills and business accumen in creating companies. Dan has a keen interest in the combination of technology and innovation to help solve issues corporations face on a daily basis. He will discuss the ways he goes about thinking about solving problems and discovering new solutions to help create disruptive business concepts. Bring your questions and ideas to this discussion as Dan will want to learn how you are innovating and creating new business concepts.
A (Long) Tale of Three Startups
Founders of Sharendipity and Ultravisual Medical Systems. Mark Gehring and Greg Tracy are co-founders of Sharendipity, a Madison startup that aims to change software development into a collaborative process accessible to anyone. This talk will trace the history of Sharendipity and two other companies co-founded by Mark: Geometrics, a UW-Madison spinoff that developed 3D radiation treatment planning software, and UltraVisual, which developed 3D-enabled, enterprise imaging software for hospitals. Geometrics software remains the market leader today, and UltraVisual merged with an image archiving company and executed a successful IPO in 2005.
